At a glance
Curious Colour is provided by Nearlight Creative Services in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Photos are converted on your device. We do not receive your photos, drawings, artist names or activity library. There are no online accounts, ads, tracking, analytics SDKs or public galleries, and we do not sell personal information or use your pictures to train models.
What stays on your device
The app stores converted pictures, drawings, artist nicknames and avatars, studio preferences, collections, books, card messages and unfinished activities in its private storage. It also keeps local conversion timing estimates and the version and date of adult terms acceptance. Use nicknames rather than a child’s full name. Original photos are held temporarily while editing or converting and are not saved in the app’s activity library. A paused batch stores references to the selected Photos items and queue settings, not original images.
Camera, Photos and Files
Camera access is used only when you choose to take a photo. The system Photos picker gives the app the images you choose. Resuming a batch may ask for access to those images; limited access is sufficient. Adding an exported picture to Photos requires permission. Files access is limited to files you choose to import or export. No microphone, contacts or location permission is requested. You can decline or revoke Camera and Photos permissions in iOS Settings and still use blank pages, starter pictures and other available features.
Exports, backups and Apple services
An adult chooses whether to save, print or share images, PDFs or editable library backups. Exported artwork and backups may contain names or messages you entered. The selected destination or recipient handles that copy under its own practices. Photos and Files may synchronise with iCloud according to your device settings. The device’s system backup may contain the app’s saved library; the app itself does not synchronise libraries or upload photos for conversion. Apple handles App Store purchases and may provide app diagnostics or aggregate sales reports under your Apple settings and Apple’s policies. We do not receive payment card details. On-device technical logs contain build timing and device operating conditions, not photos or artwork; the app does not send them to us.
Retention and deletion
Saved activities and preferences remain until you remove them or delete the app. You can long-press a saved picture to delete it, manage artists and books in the grown-up area, discard unfinished activities, and clear a paused batch. Removing an artist transfers their artwork to another artist rather than deleting it. The library keeps a recovery copy of its previous saved state, so a deleted item may remain in that local recovery file until later saves replace it. Delete the app (not Offload App) to remove its local app storage. This does not remove Photos, Files, shared copies, editable backups or system backups; manage those separately. Temporary export folders are eligible for cleanup after 24 hours when the app next runs; iOS may remove them sooner. We have no server copy of your activity library to retrieve or delete.
Children and grown-ups
A parent, guardian or authorised adult manages permissions, exports and physical crafts. The app does not ask children for contact details or an online identity. The reading gate is an interaction barrier, not proof of identity or verifiable parental consent for online data collection. No online collection from children is provided. If that changes, we will update this policy and obtain any legally required consent before enabling it.
If you contact us
If you email nearlightphotography@icloud.ca, we receive the address and information you choose to send, use them to answer the request and resolve support, privacy or rights issues, and retain them only as needed for that purpose or a legal requirement. Please have an adult contact us and do not send children’s photos or sensitive details unless necessary. Support email uses Apple’s iCloud Mail; processing may occur outside Canada. Access may also be required by applicable law. We do not add you to marketing lists. You may request access, correction or deletion of support correspondence, subject to applicable legal retention duties, or raise a privacy concern with us or the applicable privacy regulator.
